Yenagoa — The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, is dead. He reportedly passed away on Thursday after collapsing in his office at the Government House, Yenagoa.
The incident occurred at about 1:30pm while he was attending to official matters. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where doctors battled to save his life before confirming him dead.
Top government officials and security operatives stormed the hospital shortly after the medical emergency, while the facility was cordoned off to control movement.
Although the state government has yet to release an official statement, sources said the deputy governor may have suffered a cardiac-related episode.
Ewhrudjakpo, known for his rigorous work schedule, had been serving as deputy governor since 2020. His death has thrown the state into mourning, with residents and political associates expressing shock over the sudden loss.
More details are expected as the government prepares to make a formal announcement.
