2026 UTME registration: JAMB rules out extension, insists on February 26 deadline

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced that registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, will close on February 26, warning that no extension will be granted beyond the deadline.
The Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in a statement on Wednesday, said prospective candidates were informed that the sale of electronic PINs required for registration will end at midnight on February 26, while actual registration at accredited Computer-Based Test centres will conclude on February 28 for candidates who have already obtained their e-PINs.
Benjamin disclosed that as of February 17, more than 1.5 million candidates had successfully registered for the examination.
He, however, noted that despite possessing the capacity to register up to 100,000 candidates daily, registration centres nationwide are currently operating at only about 30 per cent of their capacity.
According to him, this indicates that many eligible candidates are yet to commence registration despite sufficient available space and time.
JAMB explained that an extension of the deadline is impossible because its activities are aligned with a nationally coordinated examination calendar involving other examination bodies.
It added that any shift in its schedule, would disrupt subsequent national examinations.
The Board therefore urged prospective candidates to promptly obtain their e-PINs and complete registration without waiting until the final days, warning that appeals for deadline extension would not be entertained.
According to the statement, the early notice is intended to prevent genuine candidates from missing the opportunity to sit for the examination due to procrastination or last-minute challenges.
Prospective candidates were consequently advised to take advantage of the remaining registration period and complete the process without delay.
