The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed thousands of security personnel across the territory, as part of its operational plan for the February 21, 2026 Area Council Elections.
The deployment, according to the Command, is being carried out in collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
Spokesperson of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, also announced that restriction of movement will be enforced across the FCT from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the day of the election.
She however stated that essential service providers and duly accredited election officials will be exempted from the restriction.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller Dantawaye, in the statement charged deployed officers to uphold professionalism and ensure adequate security coverage at polling units and collation centres to guarantee a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process.
He emphasised the need for officers to remain vigilant, impartial, and courteous while respecting the rights of citizens.
Residents of the FCT were urged to cooperate with security personnel and strictly adhere to security guidelines throughout the election period. The Command further encouraged eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibility peacefully, assuring them that adequate security measures have been put in place.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Police emergency numbers: 08032003913,08061581938.
