NSUK Senate okays new academic programmes, creates public health department

The Senate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, has given the green light for the rollout of several new academic programmes in a move aimed at widening the University’s curriculum scope and deepening professional capacity building.
The decisions were reached at the institution’s 136th Regular Senate Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Within the Department of Islam and Development Studies, Faculty of Arts, Senate approved a suite of postgraduate programmes, including the Postgraduate Diploma, PGD, and Professional Master’s degrees in Mosque Management, Islam and Security Studies, Islam and Conflict Resolution, Imaamship, as well as Applied Da’awa, Islamic Communication and Community Development.
Similarly, the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences received approval to commence two new undergraduate degree programmes: Bachelor of Science, B.Sc, in Islamic Economics and Finance, and Bachelor of Science, B.Sc, in Cooperative Economics and Management.
In a related step, Senate authorised the creation of a Department of Public Health to be situated in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences under the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.
The Bachelor of Science, B.Sc, in Public Health programme was also approved and will be run by the new department.
The University noted that the latest approvals reflect its ongoing resolve to promote academic innovation, enhance professional relevance, and deliver education that responds effectively to emerging societal demands.
