The Board Chairman of Leap Africa, Claire Omatseye, has said the organisation supported 276 innovators over the last 10 years in pursuit of the African dream and the creed of raising leaders to transform the continent.

Omasheye, who disclosed this at a 2-day Social Innovation Programme and Awards organised by the firm, said Leap Africa’s social innovators programme has become a platform not only to showcase exceptional entrepreneurs but also to inspire and empower future generations of change-makers in Africa.

“Today’s event is a testament to the innovation and unwavering commitment of Canon towards improving Africa over the last 10 years, with innovative individuals from diverse backgrounds coming together to share a common purpose: pioneering social change across the African continent.
“We are not only celebrating the past but, more importantly, looking forward to the future of an incredible Africa. We envision another decade filled with groundbreaking ideas, collaboration, and social impact. Our continent is nurturing innovation and positive change, and this unwavering journey continues,” she said.

Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, said factors such as undermining democratic institutions and destabilising the political landscape were regrettably, hindering economic growth and stability in most African countries.
“These challenges have prevented many African nations from realizing their full potential as predicted globally over a decade ago. The continent is ripe with opportunities for innovative ideas to address the many gaps in our development. It’s inspiring to witness our ability to rise to the challenge and contribute to the rapid pace of innovative disruptions globally
“The practical application of knowledge significantly affects leadership, and it’s crucial for leaders, particularly those of African descent, to be disruptive at this particular point in our history. Leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping the vision and direction of nations and organizations, influencing the narrative on the global stage,” she said.
