The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested two members of a notorious “one chance” robbery gang suspected to be responsible for the death of late Grace Godwin.
The 23-year-old fuel attendant was found unconscious along Iya Abubakar Street, in Life Camp, on 12th July, 2025, after she was thrown out of the ill-fated vehicle. The victim was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had closed from work on July 11 and unknowingly boarded a vehicle operated by the deadly “one chance” syndicate.
Adeh said that the arrest followed months of discreet investigation by operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye
She added that operatives, with the aid of digital reconstructive intelligence, traced and arrested two suspects identified as Kabiru Abdullahi, aged 25, and Solomon Tanko, aged 35.
“Further investigations revealed that during the robbery, the victim recognized some of the gang members, who were residents of the same Dape community where she lived. In a struggle that ensued, Kabiru Abdullahi strangled her with a plastic nylon bag after she bit his finger in self-defense,” the statement read.
The Police recovered a golden-coloured Toyota Camry (popularly known as “Pencil Light”) and plastic nylon bags used in committing the crime as exhibits.
Adeh added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang. She said the Commissioner of Police commended the Scorpion Squad for their swift and professional response and also extended condolences to the family of the late Grace Godwin.
“While efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, commends the Scorpion Squad for their swift and professional response.
“He also commiserates with the family of the late Miss Grace Godwin and reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents of the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement added.
