Policewoman dies, colleague injured as truck loses control in Abuja

A tragic road crash on the Sani Abacha Expressway in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon has claimed the life of a female police officer, while another officer sustained injuries.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the Command, preliminary findings show that the crash occurred around 2:20pm when a mixer truck allegedly driven by one Salman Usman, an employee of a construction firm in Wuse Zone 5, lost control and rammed into the location near the National Ecumenical Centre.

Adeh explained that the two affected officers were on official duty at the time. One died at the scene, while the second officer was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Speaking on the incident, she said:
“In the incident, two police officers on official duty were affected, resulting in the unfortunate loss of one of the officers, while the other sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.”

The Command noted that the accident highlights the hazards officers confront daily, especially those involved in traffic control and public safety operations across Abuja.

The truck driver has been arrested, and all vehicles involved have been removed from the scene for further examination as investigations continue.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, extended his condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased officer and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured personnel. He also assured residents that the case is being thoroughly investigated and that justice will be ensured.
