The Nigerian Navy has appointed Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho as its new Director of Naval Information and spokesperson.
The appointment, approved by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, took effect on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Folorunsho took over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who has served as the Navy’s image maker for over two years and has been redeployed as the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, the Navy’s premier base in Lagos.
A statement said Folorunsho, an engineer and war studies expert, brings extensive operational, academic and international experience to the role.
Born on December 27, 1979, in Benin City, the new spokesperson was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in September 2003 after graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
He holds multiple postgraduate degrees, including master’s degrees from the National Defence University, Pakistan; the World Maritime University, Sweden; and the United States Naval War College, Rhode Island.
During his career, Folorunsho has served on several naval ships, participated in internal security operations, and held command, instructional and research positions within and outside Nigeria, including a tour at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
He was also involved in the Navy’s indigenous shipbuilding programme at the Naval Dockyard, Lagos, and most recently served at the Naval Headquarters before his appointment.
The Navy urged members of the public and the media to take note of the change in its information leadership.
