The traditional stool of Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory has been elevated to first-class status following an announcement by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during a thank-you visit to the area council.
The minister said the decision was taken in recognition of the support shown by the people of Kwali for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while also pledging that the Federal Capital Territory Administration would fulfil development promises earlier made to the community.
Speaking during the visit, Wike said he had been directed by the president to personally convey appreciation to the people for their support.
“On behalf of Mr. President, I want to thank you sincerely for coming out to receive us for this thank you visit,” he said.
The minister recalled an earlier interactive meeting with residents during which the community outlined its expectations from the government, stressing that the administration would honour its commitments.
“Remember, when I came to Kwali for an interactive session, I did ask you what you wanted and you told me. And I told you ‘Agreements is agreement.’”
“Today, by the grace of God, you have fulfilled the promise you have made to Mr. President. And Mr. President has told me to come personally and thank you. And we will also fulfill the promise we have made to you.”
Announcing the elevation of the traditional stool, Wike said the development followed assurances earlier given by the monarch regarding the community’s support for the president.
“Let me also say that before now, your traditional ruler told me that you are going to support Mr. President, and we have seen it. I hereby by the powers conferred in me, upgrade his chieftaincy to first class chief.”
The minister also promised that the traditional institution would receive additional support, including the construction of a befitting palace for the ruler.
“Let me also say that, your traditional ruler will have a befitting palace.”
Wike further assured residents that road projects earlier requested by the community would be delivered, while commending the leadership of the council for representing the interests of the people.
“Your outgoing chairman and the chairman elect are people whom we will always listen to because they have the interests of the people of Kwali at heart. The promise I made and roads, please consider it done.”
He added that the president would continue to support the area council.
“Mr. President will always be with you and give you the necessary support.”
