Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled a major attack by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in Borno State, while also arresting suspected collaborators and rescuing kidnapped victims in separate operations across the region.
The military said troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Gajibo came under attack from a large number of terrorists riding motorcycles and armed with support weapons.
According to the military, the attackers advanced toward the town from different directions before troops responded with heavy gunfire and mortar bombardment, forcing the insurgents to retreat.
Following the operation, troops recovered ammunition and other combat materials abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. No casualty was recorded among security personnel.
In another operation, troops working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force arrested two suspected Boko Haram collaborators in Gubio town. The suspects, identified as cattle rearers, are currently being investigated.
The military also disclosed that troops arrested a suspected terrorist logistics supplier, Umar Ahmadu, in Gwoza following intelligence provided by a surrendered terrorist associate. He allegedly confessed to supplying materials to insurgents on several occasions.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old relative of a terrorist reportedly surrendered to troops along the Gwoza-Limankara axis after fleeing a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains.
The military said preliminary findings revealed that increasing pressure from ongoing operations and harsh living conditions within the enclave forced the teenager to escape.
Troops also rescued two kidnapped victims intercepted while attempting to flee captivity near Mafa town. The victims have been taken for medical checks and further assistance.
The Joint Task Force said the operations demonstrate sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist movements, logistics and support networks across the North East.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups and restoring peace and stability in the region.
