Peter Obi says he may not live to contest 2027 election

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, says he may not be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election, alleging that the Federal Government is frustrating his activities and targeting opposition figures.

Obi made the remarks during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, saying the challenges he faces go beyond the question of whether he would emerge as a candidate.

“I might not even be alive,” Obi said, alleging that the government deliberately frustrates everything he does and creates obstacles to his activities.

The former Anambra State governor, however, said he was not making a direct accusation but claimed he experiences constant frustration and believes government influence is behind many of the difficulties he encounters.

Obi further alleged that opposition politicians are being targeted, claiming he has been denied privileges he is entitled to and faces harassment during public outings.

He cited an incident at an airport where he alleged officials locked his vehicle while other vehicles parked in the same area were left untouched.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate also claimed that some people now avoid publicly associating with him for fear of repercussions, while others have discouraged him from attending family events.

Obi did not provide evidence to support the allegations during the interview.

As of the time of the interview, the Federal Government had not responded to the claims.
