Thousands of residents in Maitama, Wuse I, Wuse II and Wuye districts have been without public water supply for more than a week following damage to a major trunk line during road construction in the Federal Capital Territory.
The disruption, which has affected homes and businesses across the four districts, has forced the FCT Water Board to deploy commercial water tankers to provide free potable water pending the completion of emergency repairs.
The Water Board said the damaged trunk line was undergoing maintenance but explained that persistent rainfall had delayed the repair work beyond the initial schedule.
In a public announcement, the Board said the affected districts had experienced prolonged water shortages because of the emergency repairs, assuring residents that normal supply would be restored as soon as work was completed.
It said, “The four districts have been without water supply for over one week due to emergency repairs on the main trunk line. The repairs have been delayed beyond schedule due to persistent heavy rainfalls.”
The Board said it had deployed commercial water tankers to ease the hardship on residents, stressing that the service was free of charge.
It stated, “This intervention is to provide immediate relief to residents pending the completion of the maintenance work. The water being supplied by these tankers is completely free. Any person demanding payment for this service is acting illegally. Such incidents should be reported immediately to the FCT Water Board Headquarters, Garki Area 3.”
The Board appealed to residents to remain patient while engineers worked to restore supply, adding that normal water distribution would resume immediately after the repairs were completed.
The prolonged disruption has forced many households and businesses in the affected districts to rely on water vendors, private boreholes and alternative sources to meet their daily needs.
