The Allied Peoples Movement, APM, has formally flagged off its campaign for the 2027 presidential election, with the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, set to officially open its national campaign office in Abuja on Monday.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, said the campaign office would serve as the national coordinating hub for the Makinde/Daura presidential campaign.
Yusuf said the campaign would be anchored on issues, practical solutions and the concerns of Nigerians, while showcasing Makinde’s record in public office and his policy choices for the country.
According to him, the APM entered the 2027 race with “confidence, humility and an unwavering commitment” to offer Nigerians a credible alternative capable of restoring hope, security, prosperity and national pride.
The statement said the emergence of Makinde, who is the incumbent Oyo State Governor, and his running mate, Lawan Daura, had triggered a surge in membership and support for the party.
The party attributed the reported support to what it described as public confidence in the Makinde and Daura’s records of integrity and performance.
“Makinde’s candidacy offers the combination of competence, youthful energy, administrative experience and broad public acceptance required to build a safer, more prosperous, united and functional Nigeria,” the statement said.
Yusuf disclosed that Makinde had embarked on extensive consultations with political leaders, stakeholders and communities across the country as part of preparations for the campaign.
He said the consultations were aimed at identifying the aspirations and concerns of Nigerians and developing a comprehensive national agenda to address the country’s pressing challenges.
The party said it would soon unveil a policy blueprint containing practical and measurable solutions to the challenges confronting Nigerians and outlining Makinde’s vision for a better-governed Nigeria.
Taking a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress, the APM said the 2027 election would provide Nigerians an opportunity to choose between what it described as “renewed hopelessness” under President Bola Tinubu and a fresh agenda for resetting the country under Makinde.
The party also declared that President Bola Tinubu who is the presidential candidate of the APC, had no sellable record of achievement with which to campaign for another presidential mandate.
“It is clear that Nigerians will not reward failure with another mandate,” the APM said, urging voters to use their democratic power to elect what it described as a “competent, accountable and responsive leadership” under its platform.
