The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast a mix of rainfall, thunderstorms and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny skies with a few patches of clouds over the northern region on Monday, with isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall expected over parts of Taraba State in the afternoon and evening.
The agency forecast a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine across the North-Central region throughout the three-day period.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine and chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
It added that moderate rainfall and thunderstorms were expected later in the day over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
For Tuesday, NiMet forecast sunny skies with a few patches of clouds across the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall possible over parts of Taraba State later in the day.
The North-Central region is expected to remain cloudy with intervals of sunshine, while similar conditions are forecast for the southern region.
NiMet further predicted thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states later on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the agency forecast sunny skies with a few patches of clouds across the northern region and a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine over the North-Central region.
It also predicted cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine in the southern region, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms expected over parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in areas where rainfall is expected.
The agency advised residents to secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy rainfall and disconnect electrical appliances from sockets during thunderstorms.
It also urged the public to stay away from tall trees to avoid injury from falling branches or trees.
According to NiMet, temperatures are expected to remain high, potentially causing thermal discomfort. It advised Nigerians to wear breathable clothing, remain in well-ventilated environments and stay hydrated.
The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to support effective flight planning.
