Mother arrested in Abuja for alleged murder of her newborn 

Police recently arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohana, in the Federal Capital Territory, over the alleged killing of her newborn baby shortly after delivery in Abuja.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this on Monday, October 5, 2026, in a state-by-state summary of police operational successes.
According to the police, the case came to light after operatives received a distress call about an abandoned baby in a bush.
Surveillance personnel who responded to the location reportedly found the body of a baby boy with severe cut injuries to the neck and abdomen.
Police said preliminary investigation led to Yohana’s arrest, adding that she confessed to delivering the baby without assistance before allegedly using a razor blade to cut the child’s neck and abdomen.
The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Abuja.
Meanwhile, in Rivers State, police detectives arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery and kidnapping gang, recovering six firearms and 58 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspects were identified as Chinemerem Uchiewọ, Michael Ishaka and Gideon Okah, who was arrested in Owerri, Imo State.
Police said the suspects confessed to several armed robberies and kidnappings in Choba, Elele-Alimini, Emohua Local Government Area and Rumuokpe community.
According to the police, the gang also confessed to the July 23, 2026 robbery and killing of Joseph Onyeka in Rumuji community and the August 4, 2026 attack on Inspector Womoma Nnanna at Elele-Alimini Junction along the East-West Road.
The officer was reportedly shot during the attack, while his AK-47 rifle was allegedly stolen.
The recovered weapons included two AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, an English-made double-barrel gun and a locally made revolver pistol, as well as 58 rounds of 7.65mm ammunition.
The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Port Harcourt, for further investigation.
In Kano State, police operatives rescued two farm labourers abducted by suspected armed hoodlums at a farm near Bagauda Dam in Bebeji Local Government Area.
The attackers reportedly invaded the farm belonging to Alhaji Hassan Labe and shot sporadically before abducting the two workers.
Police said operatives mobilised to the area, searched surrounding communities and rescued both victims unhurt before reuniting them with their families.
Four suspected armed robbers were also arrested in Anambra State during an intelligence-led operation by the Rapid Response Squad in collaboration with Agu-Nechemba Vigilante.
The suspects were identified as Deñús Agwu, 30; Elvis Udo Effiong, 45; Femi Adekova, 45; and Chijioke Obinozie, 35.
Police said the suspects confessed to belonging to a six-man gang that allegedly specialised in robbing shuttle bus drivers at gunpoint and diverting company goods worth about N40 million from Onitsha.
Obinozie was allegedly identified as the receiver of the stolen goods.
Police also said a large quantity of assorted illicit substances was recovered from the suspects.
In Bayelsa State, detectives recovered a stolen tricycle and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in an armed robbery.
The police said the tricycle was stolen from Nasiru Ibrahim at gunpoint after he was allegedly chartered to Maiduguri Road.
Two locally made firearms were recovered from the suspects, while the case is being investigated by the SCID.
In Kogi State, police arrested two women, Olorunada Suzan and Sixirat Moses, over the alleged murder of 90-year-old Juliana Joel, popularly known as Oyohu.
The elderly woman was reportedly found dead under her bed with her throat slit.
Police said her remains were evacuated to a morgue as investigation continues.
The Force Public Relations Officer said the cases remain under investigation by the relevant police formations.
