Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will speak on equity, fairness and the distribution of political power in Nigeria, at the maiden induction ceremony of the Idoma Hall of Fame in Abuja on Thursday.
Wike, who holds the Idoma honorary title “Okokonio K’Idoma,” will deliver the keynote address on the theme, “People, Politics and Power in Nigeria: The Agitation for Equity, Fairness and Justice.”
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Chief Paul-Harris Ogbole (SAN), said Wike was chosen for his outspoken position on equity and fairness in the distribution of political power and his advocacy for minority rights.
“The choice of Nyesom Wike as the keynote speaker was motivated by his very vocal and strong posture on equity and fairness in the distribution of political power in Nigeria and his advocacy for minority rights,” Ogbole said.
He said Wike’s recognition as a Friend of Idoma was also intended to acknowledge his relationship with the Idoma people and his contributions to the community.
Founder and Executive Director of the Idoma Hall of Fame, Engr. Agaba Ikwue, said the initiative was established to document and preserve the achievements of distinguished Idoma people for future generations.
Ikwue said the Hall of Fame was conceived as more than an award platform, describing it as an institution for preserving Idoma history, celebrating excellence and inspiring younger generations.
“The Idoma Hall of Fame is about preserving our history and celebrating those who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavour. We want future generations to know the men and women who contributed to the growth, development and identity of Idoma Nation,” he said.
He said the initiative would also serve as a platform for youth mentorship, gender equity, preservation of Idoma heritage and community engagement, with the organisers seeking to establish it as a lasting institution beyond its founders.
Among those expected to be inducted at the maiden ceremony are former Senate President, Senator David Mark; TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono; legendary musician, Dr. Bongos Ikwue; music icon, Innocent “2Baba” Idibia; Dunamis International Gospel Centre founder, Dr. Paul Enenche; legal practitioner, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN); economist, Prof. Ode Ojowu; former Supreme Court Justice, James Ogenyi Ogebe; and former Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. James Abu Obe.
