Natives of the Federal Capital Territory have commended the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammed Bello, for protecting the people’s mandate even in the face of stiff opposition.
The natives, under the auspices of the Abuja Original Inhabitants Youth Empowerment Organisation AOIYEO, described the minister as a unifier and a lover of peaceful coexistence of the Abuja people, as demonstrated by the administration’s compliance to varying court judgment during the recent council chairmen tenure elongation tussle.
AOIYEO, while congratulating the minister for the successful inauguration of the FCT Area Councils Chairmen, say his respect for the rule of law sets him apart as a fine example of the new crop of smart, intelligent and dedicated, justice proven administrator.
The group in a statement signed by its president, Isaac David, said the FCT minister stood firm against some unscrupulous politicians who wanted to monopolise the area council for their selfish gains, and he protected the mandate of the people.
“He is a man that obeyed the rule of law, he obeyed the court judgment and the judgement that corrected the error on tenure elongation. Let the minister forget his accusers that he was part of the people that was instigating the idea of tenure elongation and move on with the good governance he has instituted in the territory. As it has always stand people can not do without him and he can not do without the support of the people.We are solidly behind him as he continues to dole out meaningful support to the FCT Area Councils and communities.
Describing Bello as a man that has keen sense of right and wrong especially with regards to city management, the youth leader said that governance should not be left to the principal officers alone, but should be a collective effort of all.
He said “when entire issue of the tenure elongation started, the minister, as you know, commissioned his legal team to follow up the matter speedily and at the end, justice was delivered to the people and he stood by it despite pressure from so many angles. He summonted all odds and swore in the Chairmen.
“We want on this note to congratulate the Area Council Chairmen and Councilors and urged them to strictly work with the people and provide necessary infrastructures and empowerment to their communities, expecially in the area of health, education, agriculture and security” he stated.
He charged the residents to remain law abiding as, “At the end of the day, let us not forget that we have no other place to call our own other than the FCT. This is our home and we have to love our territory, love our leaders, pray for our leaders, work hard to make this FCT great and the only way we can do this is through the collective work of all of us, no matter how highly placed or lowly placed, once we have that love for FCT in our heart, the sky will not be our limit.”
