The Federal Capital Territory Administration has ordered a comprehensive clean-up of all satellite towns, to address the poor environmental condition of neighbourhoods across in the six area councils.
FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, who gave the directive in Abuja, said the directive is with immediate effect under the direct supervision of the coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, STDD, so as to swiftly ensure the restoration of the environment for the safety of the residents, as well as evolving environmentally friendly communities.
She noted that the situation of waste generation in the FCT has an exponential trend because of the influx of Nigerians into the Capital Territory, peoples’ attitude, lifestyle, and behaviours towards their environment.
The STDD coordinator, Comrade Obinna Ogwuegbu, has since hit the ground running after his inauguration to personally direct implementation and supervision of the ministerial directive.
Recall that the coordinator, Satellite Town Development Department of the FCT, Comrade Obinna Ogwuegbu, has been on the trail of sanitary workers and has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise around and within the six area councils.
The coordinator has assured residents that the administration remains committed to ensuring a safer and hygienic FCT for all residents.
The coordinator, who added that the exercise would be an ongoing one, appealed to residents, particularly those living in the suburbs to desist from dumping refuse in drainages and by the roadsides.
