FCTA blows hot over return of traffic gridlock on Dutse-Alhaji

By Sarah NEGEDU

The FCT Administration has decried the return of traffic gridlock along the Dutse Alhaji market road despite the huge resources and time invested in decongesting the route.

Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, Attah Ikharo, who led a team to clean up the market, lamented the illegal activities of roadside traders which he observed had returned to the Dutse market, after it was tackled months ago.

According to him, the chaotic situation at the market was begining to return due to the compromise of some market managers and unscrupulous officials.

While he described the situation as a ticking time bomb waiting to detonate, Attah reiterated the administration’s determination to deal ruthlessly with all contravention and those promoting it.

Attah also led a sting operation to a deadly drug colony located around the Kubwa-Dutse road interchange where two suspects were arrested and substance believe to be canabis worth 45kg were also siezed.

He said the drug colony was exposed by security intelligence, warranting a marching order from FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello for it’s destruction.

The minister’s aide who expressed displeasure over the persistent lawless activities of some residents, said the suspects and the siezed drugs have been handed over to operatives of Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation.

He noted that efforts have been intensified to track down all criminal elements, and everything that constitute security threat, through aggressive monitoring of all parts of Abuja.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director , Enforcement of Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Kaka Bello, said the enforcement team won’t backtrack in it’s mission to restore environmental order to the city.

Bello noted that the destroyed drug colony is suspected to be managed by high profile drug syndicate, going by their confidence to peddle drugs in such highbrow area.
