All Covid-19 death cases recorded in the Federal Capital Territory within past two months have been from unvaccinated victims of the virus, FCT Administration has revealed.

According to the FCT minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, 100 percent of the Covid-19 deaths recorded between December to February 5th in FCT, were from those who were not vaccinated.

The minister, who stated this shortly after taking his Moderna booster dose over the weekend, observed that the covid-19 may gradually become a disease of the unvaccinated as its impact is always mild on those have been immunised against the disease.

In his words, “From the figures I got from our Public Health Department, 100 percent of the deaths that we experienced in the FCT during the last few weeks as a result of COVID-19, were from those who were not vaccinated so the thing is those are vaccinated will be mild like my own example.”

He therefore called on residents to take advantage of the different vaccines made available by the federal government with support from development partners, as they have limited shelf life.

“So my message to all is let us all get vaccinated. For those who have been vaccinated the first time the second dose, I advise them to go for the booster. And the way I feel now, if tomorrow, the doctors advise, then I will go for another booster shot because I don’t want to go through what I experienced when I tested positive to COVID-19,” he stated.

Confirming the Minister’s statement on deaths among the unvaccinated, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr. Abubakar Tafida, said all the 16 Covid-19 deaths reported since his assumption office in November, have been from unvaccinated persons.

“I came on board on the 30th of November and since then we have had a total of about 16 deaths, and all those 16 deaths from the COVID 19 pandemic were in those with co-existing morbidity. That is, those with co-existing disease conditions, and all of there have not had any of the vaccines.”

Speaking on the brand of booster dose received by the Minister, Dr. Tafida said, “We have just witnessed the Minister take his booster dose and he took the Moderna. His two previous doses were the AstraZeneca vaccine and we are comfortable with that.

On the total of Covid-19 vaccines so far given, the Mandate Secretary disclosed that over 433,000 people in the FCT that have taken their first doses and about 286, 000 have had the second dose. However, he said only about 12,000 persons in the FCT have taken their third doses yet.
