Benue First Lady Empowers Widows at 80th BEWIP Convocation

By Scholastica JOSEPH, Makurdi

Wife of the Benue State Governor, Mrs Eunice Ortom, has empowered some widows in the state to start up small and medium enterprises to enable them become economically buoyant.

She made the gesture at the 80th convocation of Benue Women In Prayer, BEWIP, which held at the Chapel of Grace, Government House Makurdi, with the theme: A New Song Unto Our God.

Mrs Ortom, who noted that women have various responsibilities to their families and should be economically empowered, donated to 10 widows to enable them establish small businesses and expand existing ones.

She charged women to remain steadfast in thanksgiving to God even as they continue to pray for their families and the state.

While appreciating the leadership and members of BEWIP for being consistent up to its 80th convocation, Mrs Ortom, who is also the convener of the interdenominational prayer group, said that it was important for Christians to offer thanksgiving of songs and praises unto God in every situation bearing in mind that without His mercies, it could have been worse.

She further urged the women not to stay idle but to build up themselves to contribute meaningfully to the development of their families and the society in general.
