There is palpable fear and apprehension among residents of Bwari Area Council over the health condition of the council chairman, Hon. John Gabaya, following his involvement in a ghastly road accident over the weekend.
Though no official statement has been given about the accident, residents are worried about the safety of the chairman-elect whose inauguration for a second term in office is barely 28days away considering the mysterious passing of two former chairmen of Bwari, Hon. Peter Yohana and Hon Isah Dara in December 2019 and January 2020.
Gabaya had also lost his wife, Mrs Shekwoyemilo Gabaya, in October 2020 from an undisclosed ailment.
Though details of the accident are still hazy as at the time of filing this report, close family sources say the chairman is in a critical condition with fear of a possible fracture to his right femur.
Confirming the incident, the chief press secretary to the chairman, Mr Patrick Odey Awusha, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said the chairman was currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.
He disclosed that a private vehicle ran into the chairman’s SUV along the Action Layout in Bwari Central around 11am while on his way to the office.
Awusha said though the chairman was with some persons in his vehicle, thankfully all of them escaped unhurt except for the chairman who sustained some inquiry.
“Unfortunately the news is true. The chairman was involved in an accident today, we are however optimistic of his full recovery, because the chairman that we all know is a vibrant young man. As a people’s leader and a grassroots politician, the chairman is always surrounded by people, and that is why even during the accident he had people with him in his car but luckily none of them was injured.
“The people of Bwari are praying for their chairman whom they know as performer.”
