FCT minister pledges support for children rights, calls for peace

By Sarah NEGEDU

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has pledged to support peace efforts by Nigerian children.
Malam Bello made the promise when the national representative, FCT Children’s Parliament, Amb. Splendour Joe-King, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja, Wednesday.
The minister said: “I have signed in already and will support you. We will work with you because an event like this should be planned well ahead”.
Amb. King, who spoke earlier, explained that she was in the FCTA to invite the minister for series of activities including a peace dinner being planned by her organization, the Nigerian Children Call for Peace.
She stressed the importance of peace in the country and regretted that children were always at the receiving end of all forms of civil unrest.
According to her, the Nigerian Children Call for Peace organizes peace clubs in schools in an attempt to make them understand that violence was not the way to solving problems.
Present at the event were Secretary, Education Secretariat, Sani Dahir El-katuzu, Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, Hajiya Hadiza M. Kabir and SA to the FCT Minister on Community Relations, Barr. Zainab Marwa Abubakar.
Others were Hon. Rhema Chinelobi and Hon Ruth Ogbuji of the FCT Children Parliament, Mrs. Vera Joe-King and Mr. Abisoye John, who are Project Director and Project Consultant for the children’s peace project, respectively.
