Angry protesters had on Friday besieged premises of the FCT Administration demanding that the newly elected chairmen f Area Councils be sworn in immediately.
The protest is coming barely 24 hours after an FCT High Court sitting in Kubwa set aside an earlier judgment approving a tenure elongation for the immediate past chairmen and their councilors.
The court on Thursday ordered the immediate Swearing-In of the newly elected chairmen and their councillors, clarifying that the May 18th judgment was given in error.
Justice Ibrahim Mohammed while delivering a fresh judgment on Friday, June 9th, vacated the first judgment given by him and directed that the area council chairmen who were elected and issued a certificate of return should be sworn into office.
Supporters of the chairmen-elect then stormed the secretariat of the FCTA on Friday, demanding audience with the FCT Minister Malam Muhammad Bello.
The protesters were seen with placards carrying different inscriptions like “respect the rule of law, inaugurate our chairmen,” “Do the right thing, swear in the chairmen”, among other inscriptions.
