An indigene of Sokoto State, Ajidagba Mariam Akanke, has emerged top scorer of the 2022 National Common Entrance Examination, NCEE, into Unity Schools with 201 scores.
Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu disclosed this on Monday while announcing the release of the result of 2022 NCEE which was conducted on Saturday 7th May, 2022 in Nigeria, as well as Benin Republic and Togo.
Adamu noted that Akanke with registration number 542121DG sat for the exercise in Oshodi Junior Secondary School, Tolu Complex, Apapa, Lagos, scoring 201.
Obot Abundance Idara, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, with registration number 550470BF who wrote the examination at State College Ete, Ikot Ekpene Centre came second with 200 points.
The National Common Entrance Examination, NCEE, is a requirement for admission into the first year of Junior Secondary Schools of Federal Unity Colleges.
Speaking further on the NCEE, the minister said it still remains one of the most competitive examinations into secondary schools in Nigeria, administered every year to Nigerian children both at home and abroad.
He disclosed that a total number of 71,738 pupils registered for the 2022 exercise with 34.030 being males and 37,708 being females, adding that 68,638 pupils sat for the examinations, while 3,100 were absent.
He further noted that Lagos State had the highest number of candidates with 19,518, out of which 18,787 sat for the examination and 731 were absent, while FCT was second with 8,623 candidates that registered, out of which 8,317 sat for the exercise and 306 were absent.
Adamu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo, also disclosed that Anambra State came third with 5,335 candidates that registered, out of which 5,070 sat for the exam and 265 were absent, while Zamfara State was fourth with 4,500 candidates registered, out of which 3,745 sat and 755 were absent.
According to him, the state that registered the least number of candidates is Kebbi State, with 74 candidates.
He further noted that the admission criteria for selection of qualified candidates into Federal Unity Colleges remains 60 per cent merit; 30 per cent equality of state; and 10 per cent exigency.
The minister assured that following the release of the result, the Federal Ministry of Education would ensure that all admission processes are completed on or before Friday 1st July, 2022, while urging parents/guardians to visit the National Examinations Council, NECO, website: www.neco.gov.ng for details of the results of their children/wards.
