Banditry, flooding responsible for rising displacement index- FCTA

The rise in case of banditry, insurgency and flooding are said to be responsible for the worrisome humanitarian crises experienced in most parts of the country.

This assertion was made by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Mr Adesola Olusade, who lamented the rising index of humanitarian crises and displacement index in the country.

Adesola stated this at a fundraising event for victims of flood disaster in the country organised by a non-governmental organisation, the Angelina Ogbole Memorial Foundation in Abuja.

He said displacement and humanitarian assistance have become global challenges as a result of climate change and human induced factors.

The permanent secretary, who was represented by the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, Abbas Idriss, stated that the FCT was doing a lot in rendering humanitarian assistance, particularly arising from insurgency in the North East.

“We have done a lot to assist them. Though there is no camp in the FCT in line with international best practices that no camp should be set up far away from the scene of the disaster.”

The permanent Secretary, who assured on the FCTA’s commitment to tackling humanitarian crises in the territory, called on everyone to support the activities of the NGO, which is doing a lot to address humanitarian crises in the country.
