Population growth is stretching facilities across schools in FCT’

The unprecedented influx of people into the Federal Capital Territory is putting a lot of pressure on infrastructure and facilities provided in the schools, the FCT Administration had pointed.

Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Sani Dahiru El-Katuzu, has however assured that despite the increase in enrollment, the administration is determined to continue to provide the enabling environment suitable for teaching and learning.

El-Katuzu who gave the assurance at a ceremony to  honour retired and outstanding staff of the Secretariat, said the FCTA will ensure it bequeath responsive and functional educational legacy to FCT residents.

Speaking on some of the secretariat’s achievement in the year 2022, El – Katuzu said the administration ensured the installation of hybrid solar system in 59 Secondary Education Board, SEB, schools, across the six area councils.

He mentioned others to include the establishment of solar hub at incubation centre, Karu in collaboration with Verysol Energy Technologies, construction and furnishing of 1000 capacity GSE hall, Zuba and construction of School of languages.

He added that the secretariat also commissioned the renovated learning centre, Lugbe, establishment and take-off of the Government Science and Technical College, Kogo – Bwari for the 2022/2023 academic among many others achievements.

The director, FCT Human Resource Management, Mallam Muhammad Bashir, at the occasion, explained that the Secretariat was able to record these achievements due to the cooperation and support of the FCT ministers and the Permanent Secretary.

He also commended the dexterity of the Education Secretary, Sani El- Katuzu, whose tenure witnessed the clearing of arrears being owed to teachers.

He said, ” This is a clear indication that the FCT Administration does not joke with the welfare of teachers. The Administration has directed that Staff Welfare should be improved especially that of teachers, and that is why today, teachers in FCT are being paid the approved minimum wage for education officers.”
