The Forum of Governing Council Members in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions, FOGOCOM, has called for stronger collaboration with the Federal Government to enhance better governance across the nation’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
National Chairman of the Forum, Dr. Akin-Thomas Babajide, made the call during a thank-you visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, where he outlined the Forum’s strategic agenda for institutional reforms.
Babajide introduced FOGOCOM as a body of serving Governing Council Members committed to promoting sound governance structures and ensuring effective oversight in tertiary institutions.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of FOGOCOM, Hon. Benedict Aguele, quoted Babajide as saying that the visit aimed to formally introduce the Forum to the SGF’s office, seek official recognition and partnership, and brief him on its planned nationwide inspection tour in the first quarter of 2026 to assess Federal Government–funded education projects.
The FOGOCOM Chairman also urged the SGF to support efforts toward strengthening policy coordination between Governing Councils, the Federal Ministry of Education, and other relevant agencies.
He further sought collaboration on capacity-building initiatives and the development of a National Code of Governance for Tertiary Institutions.
Reaffirming the Forum’s commitment to accountability and educational advancement, Babajide disclosed that FOGOCOM will submit a comprehensive national report from its project assessments to guide future policy actions.
