Morka vs. Sobotie: Delta APC leaders seek NWC’s intervention

The State Executive Committee, SEC, of Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC, has petitioned the National Working Committee, NWC, to suspend the State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, citing gross misconduct and constitutional breaches.

Recall, in a petition dated March 17, 2025, authored by Sobotie, which called for the removal of the National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Barrister Felix Morka.

Sobotie’s petition accused Morka of issuing a press statement without proper consultation and allegedly declaring Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the party leader in Delta State during a television interview.

In a counter-petition statement by State Deputy Chairman; Francis Obigbor,  State Secretary, Peter Akarogbe, and other Local Government Area Chairmen and Secretaries. Collectively called for Sobotie’s immediate suspension to prevent further damage to the party’s reputation and to restore unity within the Delta State chapter.

The SEC who refuted Sobotie’s claims called on the National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi  Ganduje, while coping national figures in party the including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

“We urge the NWC to discountenance the petition as frivolous and reckless and dismiss it in its entirety. Sobotie’s actions are a clear violation of Section 21.2v of the party’s constitution, which explicitly prohibits members from providing false information to any party organ and engaging in unauthorized publicity of party disputes without exhausting all internal avenues for settlement or redress. This blatant disregard for party procedures and protocols is unacceptable and warrants immediate suspension.”

They asserted that Sobotie acted unilaterally without SEC approval and that his allegations against Morka were baseless.

“The petition was authored unilaterally by Sobotie without reference to, and without the approval of, the State Executive Committee (SEC), on whose behalf he claims to have submitted the disturbing and dishonorable petition dated 17/03/2025, demanding the removal of the National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Barr. Felix Morka, from office.

“The petition is grossly misconceived, petty, reckless, and disclosed no reasonable or justifiable basis to call for the removal of the NPS from office. It shows that Sobotie lacks understanding of the limits of his authority as state chairman and the requisite constitutional process for the discipline of officers of the respective organs of the Party, particularly the National Working Committee (NWC).”

The counter-petition emphasized that no evidence was found of Morka declaring Senator Omo-Agege as the state party leader in any television broadcast.

The SEC members expressed full confidence in Morka’s leadership and condemned Sobotie’s actions as a violation of the party’s constitution, specifically referencing Section 21.2v, which prohibits providing false information to any party organ and engaging in unauthorized publicity of party disputes.

They accused Sobotie of undermining the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms by making his petition public.

“We categorically condemn and dissociate ourselves from the petition. The allegations are baseless and constitute a blatant attempt to silence a courageous voice in defense of the Party and President Bola Tinubu’s administration. We fear that Sobotie has been commissioned by external political interests to undermine the effectiveness of the office of NPS.”

Further allegations against Sobotie include absenteeism, failure to convene SEC meetings, and an alleged inappropriate relationship with the Delta State government, controlled by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The petitioners claim that Sobotie’s leadership has been detrimental to the party’s integrity and effectiveness in the state.
