Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) announces the commencement of the tender process for the award of contracts aimed at advancing community development initiatives.
Chairing the Tender Board Committee, Hon. Ja’afaru M. Gwagwa, emphasized the commitment to transparency, citing adherence to the Public Procurement Act of 2007 and a level playing field for Nigerian contractors.
In a statement by Senior Special Assistant Media and Public Affairs to AMAC Chairman , Kingsley Madaki He Highlighted the council’s dedication to fulfilling campaign promises, Hon. Gwagwa assured participants of a transparent process and urged contractors to uphold their responsibilities diligently.
He said: “This ceremony becomes expedient in view of the importance we attach to transparency which is regarded as the global best practice for the award of contracts and to meet up with the Public Procurement Act of 2007 that we strictly adhere to.
“As part of Due Process, Abuja Municipal Area Council is not an exception and we would do everything possible to follow it, in order to stand out among other Area Councils in FCT.
“As you all know, this process is to create a level playing field and great opportunities for all interested Nigerians to participate in the development of the Council. It is indeed a viable option that must be pursued to come out transparently.
“It may interest you to know that the Executive Chairman is desirous to deliver his campaign promises to the electorates, that is why the Council has shown a sense of equality and make the process so transparent that you will never regret participating in it.
“As a government, we want to assure you that we would continue the good works which we have started and we move ahead to actualize our dreams. Your coming here today has shown that AMAC is transparent in the award of contracts.
“After this process, the technical members of the tender board will analyze the tenders and come up with the list of successful contractors. On this note, I hereby declare this event open.”
Also speaking, the Director of Admin, Musa Sule Sarki, warned contractors that their contracts will not be reviewed once awarded.
He said it is no longer business as usual, lamenting that many contactors are fond of going to sleep once they secure contracts, only to come back in two or three months time to demand review of their contracts due to market forces.
He said that the Chairman of the council, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, will liaise with legal advisers of the council in order for the contractors to sign documents against laxity and contract review.
On his part, HOD of Works, Architect Andrew Gaza, said that projects captured in the 2024 budget of the council include road construction, rural electrification, construction of primary healthcare centers (PHCs), building of classroom blocks, drilling of solar powered boreholes, fencing of schools, fencing of PHCs, among others.
He advised the contractors to live up to expectations if they are lucky to win the biddings, which he said included building and construction and quantity surveying.
Over 15 companies had rendered their bids and were presently being considered as of the time of filing this report.
