Amid efforts to mitigate effects of Gender Based violence, GBV, the Association of Wives of Traditional Rulers in partnership with stakeholders in customary sector is finalising a code of conduct document for Sexual and Gender-based Violence within the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The thirty four draft copy has emphasized the traditional justice system. It consists of the principles of the traditional justice system,the role of the state in charting ways for the original inhabitants on issues of violence.
The draft also dwelt extensively on administration of FCT traditional justice for GBV case management process, policy, justice delivery,long term support for survival and immediate support for survival
Speaking at a one-day review held on Thursday in Abuja, AWTR Programmes Director, Ambassador Hannatu Usman Nga, explained thatAssociation of traditional rulers wives has began for more than two years and we are into sexual gender base violence for all the 17 chiefdoms and MC Arthur Foundation sponsor’s us because they say it is our Association that helps them to reach the grass roots and we are responsible into make our people vocal if they are victims of GBV and even government that we partner with NAPTP, Legal Aid,

“Many of these victims cannot speak English but we encourage them to speak they language they understand and it will be translated.
Also speaking, His Royal Highness, Agabe of Ugbada-Gwargwada, Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam said that “The code of conduct will guide our wives in their operational act. This document will go a long way in assisting them in proffering solutions to some of our teething problems in the palace that has to do with women backwardness in Education. Our hope is that when this code of conduct is reviewed it will support the 17 chiefdoms
“The code of conduct will harmonize so many decisions we take in our palaces it will bring us together as an institution”
On his Part President/Founder of Mediation Training Institute, Segun Ogunyanmwo, said ” I believe men should protect women. So women are asking for support. You should give them a third people that’s when God created the woman.
The challenge most times is when people have issues they don’t know where to go to. So we are hoping that after now, we have established in the different Palaces, mediation centres a place they can go to and somebody will listen to them and attend to their needs.
“It will prevent them from resorting to safeguard while taking laws into the hands of repeat alpha versus when people know these implicit can go to somebody will listen to them because when you listen to people’s therapeutic will listen”
