The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 250 elderly citizens in Kogi State with cash gifts of ₦200,000 each through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme.
The event, held at the Government House in Lokoja, marked the second batch of the scheme designed to provide financial aid and healthcare support to senior citizens aged 65 and above across the country. Beneficiaries in Kogi State were drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Senator Tinubu, represented by Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, Wife of the Kogi State Governor, disclosed that ₦2 billion has been allocated for the scheme nationwide. Each state, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives’ Association (DEPOWA), has received ₦50 million for the initiative.
“Each of the 250 beneficiaries in every state will receive ₦200,000 today. Additionally, they will undergo free medical checkups and receive other sundry items to enhance their welfare,” Senator Tinubu stated.
The First Lady emphasized that the program aims to alleviate the challenges faced by elderly citizens in retirement and old age, while encouraging them to prioritize their health through regular medical checkups.
She congratulated the beneficiaries on their selection and reassured them that the scheme will continue annually to support their welfare.
The RHI Elderly Support Scheme is part of the First Lady’s broader initiative to address the needs of vulnerable groups across the nation.
