FCTA Staff Award: Workers now work for impact

By Sarah NEGEDU

Staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration have commended the management of the FCTA for instituting a reward system that inspires hard work and healthy competition amongst workers.

The staff, who spoke on the backdrop of the forthcoming FCTA Staff Recognition and Award Ceremony, said the initiative has not only changed their mindset to work, but also given them the needed impetus to work.

A senior staff of the FCT Fire Service, Controller Adebayo Amiola, who spoke about the award and recognition, said it has put workers on their toes, with determination to perform maximally.

The senior fireman noted that since the institutional framework for the award was approved, there has been healthy competition among workers in the various departments and agencies.

Also, a staff at the office of the minister, who pleaded anonymity, said the award was not just a well thought out reward system, but also a motivational factor that must be sustained as it had pushed many staff to be more dedicated to their duties.

A young lady who was recognised at the last award, disclosed that many workers are now always gunning for excellent service performance, with the hope of being recognised.

The FCTA’s Acting Director, Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, said the award and recognition was instituted in accordance with ongoing reforms in the civil service.

She disclosed that since inception of the award, workers have testified of enormous impact the reward system has brought them.

Ahmadu, while noting that the award committee members have lived up to the responsibility of sticking to the standard rules for selection, listed that some of the factors for consideration includes, punctuality, outstanding contribution to the overall performance of the SDA, resourcefulness in overcoming challenges among others.

In her words, “Ability to work with superiors and subordinates in a disciplined, honest and professional manner.

Exhibition of leadership qualities and acceptance of responsibility,” were some of the qualities considered.
