The Kogi State Government has expressed its commitment to partnering with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) to expand access to clean and renewable energy across the state, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on energy transition.
This assurance was given by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo during a working visit to the ECN headquarters in Abuja, where he was received by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi.
During the visit, Governor Ododo highlighted the importance of energy access in driving inclusive development, stating that Kogi is prioritizing energy infrastructure as a key component of its development agenda. He also described Dr. Abdullahi, an indigene of Kogi State, as “a worthy ambassador of the state and Nigeria,” commending his contributions to the country’s clean energy drive.
The governor reiterated his administration’s readiness to align fully with the federal government’s clean energy strategy. “We are committed to improving access to energy through clean and renewable sources to ensure that even our underserved communities benefit from sustainable electricity solutions,” Governor Ododo said.
In his remarks, Dr. Abdullahi briefed the governor on the Commission’s role in the implementation of Nigeria’s energy policies, including the National Energy Master Plan. He explained that the ECN is spearheading the Renewed Hope Solarization Project — a federal initiative that aims to deliver solar-powered infrastructure, such as streetlights and other amenities, to public institutions across all 36 states.
Dr. Abdullahi also stated that the Commission is targeting 30% off-grid electricity coverage nationwide and emphasized that the goal aligns with Kogi State’s aspirations for inclusive energy access in both urban and rural communities.
