Police arrests woman for murder of paralysed husband

By Sarah NEGEDU

Police operatives from the Pegi Division in Kuje Area Council on Monday, arrested a woman for the gruesome murder of her husband and burning his remains.

The woman, Rahimat Salaum, allegedly strangled her husband in their residence at the popular 1000 Housing Unit Estate in Pegi, before burning his corpse to avoid the crime being traced to her.

Spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement said, “The suspect was attempting to flee with the belongings of the partially paralysed husband and had been reportedly missing for about three days in a mini truck when police operatives swooped in and apprehended her.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to killing her husband after a fight ensued between them. She subsequently led the police operatives to an uncompleted building where she had dumped the gruesomely burned body.

“While investigation is still ongoing, the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, wishes to affirm that justice will be served in the matter, as he urged residents to be wary of their environment and report suspicious activities through the police emergency lines.”
