Nigeria and Brazil are set to strengthen ties in the health sector with a proposed five-year joint action plan.
This came during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil, where he met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Both leaders described the visit as a fresh start in Nigeria–Brazil relations and pledged stronger South-South cooperation.
At the high-level talks involving ministers and senior government officials, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, said the plan would build on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between both countries in July.
Nigeria also proposed a government-to-government procurement arrangement that would boost access to medical supplies and improve health systems in the two nations.
Officials from both sides expressed optimism that the partnership will drive innovation and deliver better healthcare outcomes for their citizens.
