The All Progressives Congress, APC, has hailed its victory in the Rivers State local government elections, saying the outcome reflects the people’s confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The ruling party, which won 20 out of the 23 chairmanship seats contested on Saturday, described the polls as a peaceful and transparent exercise.
In a statement on Monday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, thanked party leaders, members and supporters for their efforts, while also commending the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and security agencies for what he called a hitch-free process.
“We urge the newly elected local government officials to work even harder to deliver meaningful governance outcomes for the common good of all,” Morka said.
The APC, however, dismissed allegations of electoral malpractice raised by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing them as “incendiary and irresponsible.”
Morka said Atiku’s comments were a smokescreen to mask what he called the “miserable performance” of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party he currently associates with.
“Atiku’s tirade is no more than a smokescreen meant to distract the public from another miserable record of his ADC, and an attempt to stoke tension and strife over the Rivers local government election,” the statement added.
The APC urged Rivers residents to ignore Atiku’s remarks, describing him as a “forlorn serial presidential contender” attempting to incite trouble.
“Again, our profuse gratitude remains with the Rivers State electorate for their highly valued support. Together, we will build a stronger, more united Rivers State that works for the good of all,” Morka stated
