The National Council for Women Societies,NCWS, Nigeria has conferred the title of Life Member on the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, recognizing her efforts and achievements since assuming office.
The Acting National President of NCWS, Geraldine Etuk, performed the decoration during a courtesy visit to the minister in Abuja on Friday.
She commended the minister for her dedication to women’s advancement and expressed the Council’s willingness to collaborate on programs that empower women and boost their participation in politics and leadership.
“We believe that together, we can make a significant impact and create a brighter future for Nigerian women,” Mrs. Etuk said. “Once again, congratulations on your appointment, and we look forward to a fruitful collaboration.”
During the visit, Etuk also called for the restoration of NCWS budget lines at the federal, state, and local government levels to enable the Council to function more effectively.
In her response, Minister Suleiman-Ibrahim expressed appreciation for the Council’s support and highlighted their role in promoting the empowerment of Nigerian women. She aligned the Council’s efforts with the core values of the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
“I applaud NCWS for championing initiatives that amplify women’s voices, promote education, and foster economic development,” the minister said.
She also proposed the development of a new Women’s Anthem to inspire confidence among Nigerian women as the Ministry prepares for its 30th anniversary.
“The anthem will serve as a symbol of unity and strength for Nigerian women, especially as we celebrate this milestone,” Suleiman-Ibrahim said.
She assured stakeholders of the Ministry’s support, promising to address challenges hindering the Council’s operations and to provide necessary resources for their effectiveness.
“We are committed to ensuring that the NCWS has the tools it needs to continue its vital work in advancing the rights and welfare of Nigerian women,” she added.
