The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State, which claimed dozens of lives and left many injured.
In a statement released on Sunday, by Director Information and Public Relations, Rhoda Ishaku, the minister described the incident as “pathetic and unfortunate,” praying for the repose of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured.
“I am deeply saddened by the frequent occurrence of tanker explosions in the country, which lead to loss of lives, injuries, and destruction of property. I share in the pains of the community who lost their beloved ones in this devastating incident,” he said.
Yilwatda commended the prompt response of the Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, who visited the site, and the efforts of agencies like the State Emergency Management Agency, Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the Nigeria Police in evacuating victims.
He also called on motorists to adhere to road safety regulations and ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles to prevent future tragedies.
“May Almighty God comfort the families of the victims and grant healing to the injured,” he prayed.
The explosion, which occurred on January 18, has drawn widespread concern over the safety of fuel transportation across the country.
