ICPC secures conviction of Lagos Airport supervisor for N11m fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has secured the conviction of Mohammed Idris, a supervisor at the Hajj and cargo terminal of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, for diverting N11.2 million in missing funds.

In a statement by, Director Public Enlightenment and Education/ Spokesperson for the Commission Demola Bakare, said, the case was brought before Justice O.A. Fadipe of the Ikeja Special Offenses Court, where ICPC prosecutors proved that Idris failed to account for money collected in the course of his work.

ICPC counsel, Yvonne Williams-Mbata, presented evidence showing that the defendant violated Sections 26(1)(b) and 25(1) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The investigation uncovered that the missing funds accumulated under his supervision between February 2001 and April 2021.

Justice Fadipe sentenced Idris to one year in prison for each of the two charges, with the option of paying a N1 million fine for both counts.

Additionally, the court ordered him to sign a bond of good behavior and deposit N2 million with the High Court registry. Failure to comply could result in a further ten-year imprisonment.
