Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 accused the Department of State Services, DSS, of denying the legal team, a family member and a former member of the Abia State House of Assembly Hon. Obinna Ichita, access to his client
Kanu is facing terrorism charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja, and was repatriated to Nigeria from Kenya in June 2021 under controversial circumstances.
After repeatedly accusing the DSS of denying them access to Kanu, Justice Binta Nyako, on May 20, 2024 ordered the DSS to allow Kanu to receive visitors for three days a week – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Ejimakor on his verified X handle stated; “Today, the DSS arbitrarily refused us (the Legal Team), an ex-member of Abia State House of Assembly (Hon. Obinna Ichita) & the family of Mazi Nnnamdi Kanu from having a visitation with him. This flagrant violation of the Nigerian Constitution and a subsisting Court order will not stand.”
The Abuja Inquirer upon inquiry cited a letter addressed to the DG, SSS dated February 18, 2025 listing; Aloy Ejimakor, Jude Ugwuanyi, Mandela Umegbongu, all lawayers, Hon. Obinna Ichita and Nwaorgu Pleasure Chidiebere as those for the visitation billed for Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
