PDP suspends Anyanwu, Ajibade, two others over alleged misconduct

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP  has suspended four of its top national officers following allegations of misconduct and actions said to be contrary to the party’s constitution.

Those affected are the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature.

Their suspension was approved during the 608th meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) held on Friday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the decision was taken in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution, pending the outcome of investigations by the Disciplinary Committee.

He explained that the suspended officers were found to have engaged in activities deemed “inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP Constitution and detrimental to the interest of the party.”

The NWC also directed that the Deputy National Secretary will act in Anyanwu’s stead, while the National Director of Legal Services will oversee the legal department.

The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party and follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja restraining the PDP from conducting its planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, later this month.

The suspension is expected to heighten internal tension within the PDP as factions loyal to different power blocs continue to jostle for control ahead of the convention.
