UBEC tasks officers on development of basic education

The Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, has charged School Support Officers, SSOs, domiciled in Local Government Education Authorities, LGEAs, nationwide to recommit themselves to enhancing the quality of basic education in Nigeria.

Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba, gave the charge at the opening ceremony of a three-day capacity-building workshop for SSOs from various parts of the country, in Abuja.

Garba stressed the crucial role of delivering quality basic education to Nigerian children, stressing the need for all stakeholders to reinforce their commitment to the effective implementation of the Universal Basic Education, UBE, programme.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, UBEC’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, David Apeh, highlighted the contributions of the National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galadanci.

Galadanci emphasized the vital role SSOs play in strengthening the basic education sector through effective monitoring and mentorship of teachers and school administrators.

He noted that it was fitting for the first UBEC-organized workshop under the new Executive Secretary’s tenure to focus on SSOs, given their critical responsibilities in maintaining quality assurance at the grassroots level.

The workshop, themed “Empowering SSOs to Champion and Support Technology Integration,” was aimed at equipping participants with knowledge of educational technologies and their practical application to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

Additionally, it sought to enhance communication and collaboration skills, enabling SSOs to provide effective mentorship and support to school personnel.

According to the statement, these objectives align with UBEC’s core mandate of ensuring the delivery of quality basic education to all Nigerian children.
