AMAC Chair defects to APC over job losses

Laraba MUREY

The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, citing the loss of federal jobs and appointments as a key reason for his defection.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu said the decision was in the best interest of AMAC residents, who have been missing out on vital federal opportunities due to political affiliations.

“It was important we took a position and the position we took is for the good of our democracy and to ensure that the good people of AMAC move forward,” Maikalangu stated.

He emphasized that the council had suffered setbacks in accessing federal interventions, ecological funding, and job slots because of differences in party alignment.

“I looked at the interests of my people and I have seen that these interests were not protected in any other party than the APC,” he said.

Maikalangu also cited the example of other politicians who switched to the APC to align with the center and enhance development, including Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and Dr. Kingsley Kelachukwu Okoronkwo.

According to him, joining the APC is a strategic move to secure a better platform for serving AMAC residents and ensuring they benefit from national resources.

The defection, announced on Sunday, April 13, 2025, marks a major political shift in the FCT area council leadership as Maikalangu pledges to put AMAC first.
