A pro-Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, group, Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria, has described the claim by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, that he made Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State as an exaggeration that has no iota of truth.
In a statement on Saturday, the group said the FCT minister has taken to playing God in any and every politician’s life, a dangerous attribute that God despises.
The statement signed by Aderemi Adeyemi, an official of the party from Oyo state, noted that Governor Diri was voted into office by Bayelsans and upheld by the courts, therefore, no single individual can lay claim to “I made Diri governor.”
“The attention of Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria have been drawn to statements credited to the Minister of the FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike to the effect that he made Douye Diri to emerge as the Governor of Bayelsa State.
“Nothing can be farther from the truth. Mr. Wike was more in tune to seeing the APC take the Bayelsa governorship as he has done at the national level with the reward of a ministerial position that has seen him become a god, an attribute the Almighty despises.
“Governor Diri was duly elected by the people of the state and upheld by the courts following a challenge mounted against him by the APC and aided by Minister Wike. It is insulting to the sensibilities of Bayelsans to imagine that an outside could claim to have given them a governor.
“This mischief should be kept in mind and serve as a rallying cry against those the minister might want to support in the state in future elections. The Bayelsa people need to demonstrate that nobody, less a non-Bayelsan can decide for them.
“We advise the minister to concentrate on his reward for working against the PDP but should be wary of what history holds,” Aderemi stated.
According to him, the group is aware of those who supported Diri to become governor and such individuals are known to be mature, dignified and will not indulge in such rabid posturing.
