President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Mr. Mark Carney on his emergence as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister, following the Liberal Party’s win in the recent parliamentary elections.
In a statement released Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the victory as a “hard-fought electoral triumph” and a timely development for Canada, given the nation’s pressing leadership demands.
Carney, a veteran economist with an impressive global résumé, including stints as Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, is expected to bring seasoned expertise to his new role.
Tinubu expressed confidence that such rich experience would be invaluable at a pivotal moment in Canada’s national journey.
The president also signaled Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen bilateral ties with Canada, especially in the areas of education, climate change, and migration.
He emphasized the desire to build a forward-looking partnership with Carney’s administration, building on the legacy of cooperation with former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
