The Federal Capital Territory Administration has applauded the increasing influence of women in transforming Nigeria’s education sector, describing their role as central to the development of future generations and the advancement of human capital.
Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, gave the commendation at the opening ceremony of the 2nd National Conference of the Association of Women in Colleges of Education, WICE, held in Zuba, Abuja.
Mahmoud, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Mrs. Joy Okeke, commended the leadership and members of WICE for their unwavering dedication to gender inclusion, professional development, and academic excellence in the nation’s colleges of education.
The minister, in a statement by her media aide, Austine Elemue, described the theme of the conference, “Revolutionizing Education; Announcing Innovation Pedagogies for 21st Century Students,” as not only timely but aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which she said places emphasis on inclusive education and long-term human capital development.
According to her, the conference offers a critical platform for female educators to rethink outdated methods, embrace innovation, and foster academic environments that respond to the demands of a rapidly changing world.
She pledged the FCT Administration’s continued support educational initiatives and professional bodies like WICE, stressing that investment in women educators remains critical to national growth.
Mahmoud urged participants to seize the opportunity of the conference to exchange ideas, build strategic networks, mentor emerging professionals, and develop practical solutions to uplift colleges of education and society as a whole.
The conference brought together women academics, educationists, policymakers, and researchers from across the country to explore forward-thinking solutions that can reposition colleges of education as incubators of innovation and excellence.
