Herder dies after falling from tree in Kuje

By Sarah NEGEDU

A yet-to-be-identified herder reportedly died after falling from a tree in Gurufufu community in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Our correspondent gathered that incident happened around 3pm on Tuesday while the herder was attempting to cut tree branches to feed his cattle.

A resident, Bako Hussain, told the media that the deceased had been grazing his cows near a farm in the area when he climbed the tree in search of more leaves for his cattle.

Hussain said the deceased suddenly lost step after placing his leg on one of the tree branches and he fell and hit his head on a big stone under the tree.

He added that the herder’s son, who was with his father when he fell, immediately ran to alert him.

“I was working on my farm when his son came to tell me his father had fallen from the top of the tree. I rushed to the scene and met him on the ground, bleeding from his mouth and nose, with a deep cut on his head,” he said.

Hussain said he quickly informed the herder’s kinsmen at a nearby camp. The victim was later taken to a hospital in Kwaku village, where he was confirmed dead.
