Police caution Okada riders over Kubwa attack plan

By Sarah NEGEDU

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has issued a stern warning over an alleged plot by commercial motorcyclists to attack task force officials in the Kubwa axis of the FCT.

Police said the warning had become necessary following a voice note circulating on social media, alleging that a group of Okada riders plan to stage a violent assault on law enforcement personnel operating in the area on Friday, July 11.

Describing the alleged plan as a criminal act, the Command in a statement warned that it would not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against anyone involved.

The statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, warned that, “Any person or group involved in planning, instigating, or contemplating carrying out any form of violent protest or attack on any law enforcement officials, under whatever guise, is hereby sternly warned to immediately abort such plans.”

She added that the police would use “all lawful means, including arrests, prosecution, and necessary force” to respond to any breach of public order.

“Let it be clear: this is not a threat but a firm assurance. The Command has both the capacity and the resolve to protect public officers, safeguard lives and property, and ensure law and order within the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement read.

The police therefore urged residents not to panic, as they may witness heavy police presence and increased deployment of assets around the Kubwa axis to avert any form of unrest.

The Command explained that, “These deployments are strictly aimed at preventing any breach of peace and should not be misconstrued.”

While urging law-abiding residents to remain calm and continue with their normal activities, the police called for vigilance and encouraged prompt reporting of suspicious movements via the following emergency lines: 0803 200 3913, 0806 158 1938.

“The FCT Police Command remains committed to the protection of all residents as no individual or group will be allowed to undermine the peace and security of the Federal Capital Territory,” Adeh added.
