FCTA to deepen investment in health infrastructure, workforce

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through investments in infrastructure, capacity building, and enhanced collaboration among health professionals.

This assurance was given by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, during the maiden summit of the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria, held in Abuja.

A statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media, Austine Elemue, stated that the Minister underscored the increasing relevance of dental technologists in multidisciplinary care teams, especially as global awareness of oral health and modern prosthetics continues to grow.

According to the statement, Mahmoud urged participants to embrace the disruptions brought by digitization and artificial intelligence, while also prioritizing standardized training, innovation, and global competitiveness.

She also emphasized the need to strengthen local research and scale up domestic production of dental materials, to reduce dependence on imports and improve accessibility.

The Minister further charged stakeholders at the summit to engage in strategic discussions capable of producing actionable recommendations to shape policy and improve professional standards across the board.

Mahmoud, reiterated the FCTA’s commitment to supporting all initiatives geared towards advancing healthcare delivery in the territory, and commended the contributions of dental technologists to the system.

Meanwhile, the Registrar of the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria, Malam Idris Bappah, said the summit provided a platform for critical dialogue on overcoming obstacles and strengthening the human resource component of the profession.

The event also featured merit awards presented to individuals and institutions recognised for their contributions to the growth and development of dental technology in Nigeria.
